That was heartbreaking and awesome at the same time. Like House's mother said his father loved him. What I want to know is when and why it went all wrong. They have to show s more stuff like to give House's behavior and relationship greater context.

The thing that hit me about this clip is hearing Wilson still whispering. I wish I could make out what he says. Poor Wilson! He is just so screwed up that even though he knows House knows, he can't stop. Poor Wilson :(.

My guess is nothing specifically happened. House went from being a little boy who idolized his dad to a teenager who did not. Perhaps that is all it took to begin the rift between them. Sadly, it doesn't take much sometimes, and it can snowball straight to hell from there if dad and son alike are trying to be the one in control. Add mom the enabler and tada! Family dysfunction!

I actually thought the same thing. I was thinking back to One Day One Room to what he told Eve about the ice baths and being made to sleep outside. I know some people believe he was lying but I for one don't and wonder what affect that abuse at the hands of his father had on his mental health. The deleted scene and him talking to his dad was all well and good but if he didn't address his feelings regarding the abuse then what is this going to accomplish? I too wish the show would address some of the issues they themselfs have thrown out there over the past few years to have it make more sense to us. Just my thoughts :)

It doesn't have to screw up your fic. Their relationship obviously broke down at some stage, and also in the flashback we only see some exmaples of him being a good dad. We don't know what happens the rest of the time. House said "there were good times." So there must be a lot of bad times for you to work with too.

Every time this show tries to get personal it's like they go into ff.net, pick up a mediocre piece of fanfiction and then record it.

Seriously, even the crappiest of House fanfic has him growing up as being PRETTY MUCH THAT. Because when you think "kid, military dad" that's. What you think.

That said, I love that end scene. Even though RSL seems to hate that last piece of dialogue of his.

I also think that Gregory outgrew idiolizing his dad, like all the kids had to in a military base. Did you notice that the happy Gregory was 8 (birthday candles), and so imo, when growing up, reading, learning, and experiencing, and being able to have an idea of his own, he realizes he does not agree with his dad, and the dad reacts to that loss of adoration by force and abuse, etc.
I think the ice-cream scene, and the look Gregory has in his eyes, of complete idolization is important, because this is exactly what House cannot have, he find flaws in everything that seems perfect, because, maybe, the first think he idolized turned out to be a pretty crappy thing!
