I agree both that it is IC, and it's always been irritating, and I get that you wouldn't change it. I can identify with your irritation. House does things to his patients and underlings that he'd never allow his doctors and bosses to do to him, and I'm usually irritated with (or pissed off at) House because of his abuse of power issues and hypocrisy.
I wasn't irritated this time because Wilson could and did fight back both subtly and full-force. 1. "If there's anything I've learned from you, etc." Manipulative, House-ego polishing Wilson at his finest. True, House, manipulated him right back, but it was great. It was a war between equals. 2. Wilson didn't have to hold back when he dressed House down for preventing Wilson from giving the speech. Of course, House explained he was trying to give Wilson what he needed EMOTIONALLY (the acknowledgement that Wilson's been doing the right thing, which he got both from House and the doctor who complimented House on his courage for giving Wilson's speech). That was a significant difference from House's past behavior. He rarely cares so much and so deeply about what someone needs emotionally, nor risks so much so publically to give it. (Someone could have recognized House) I loved it.
Wilson's also been just as arrogant about making pre-emptive, best-of-intentions decisions about House's own good without consulting House. I love how the episode mirrored one of those decisions, the drugged and unfairly forced attendance of his dad's funeral in Birthmarks. 1. It showed House was trying to use Wilson as the model of what a good friend should be, awwwwww, without being mushy. I love it when he tries to use Wilson as a role model. It's cute. 2. I also loved it because it showed how screwed up they both are yet how much they love each other.
I still get why you didn't love it the way I did. Just explaining a little more about why I did.
Re: Er, seems I'm the only one who isn't in love with this episode.
