“Free Time” (1/1)
by Lisa Michelle

Wilson was barely awake. Not even seven in the morning and here
he was in the kitchen being House’s guinea pig. “I’m going to be late.”

“No you’re not,” House said, turning back to the pot on the
stove. “The patients aren’t going to doctor themselves.”

Wilson sighed and looked at his messy kitchen. “Clean this
stuff up when you’re through.” He turned and started down the
hallway back to his bedroom.

“I’m hurt,” House said. “Here I am trying to make you a nice
dinner and all you can do is criticize me.”

Wilson wasn’t going to point out the early hour, since he already
did a few minutes ago and go nowhere. However, he turned around
and found himself back in the kitchen with House, who was stirring
another pot. “Taste this one. It has a dash more oregano and –“

“Aren’t you through with cooking now?” Wilson asked.
“It was cute for awhile, but now it’s really annoying,” he told
House. “Why don’t you start watching another soap opera or maybe
some monster truck rallies on Speed?”

“Just because I’m unemployed doesn’t mean I’m going to sit
around in my pajamas all day watching TV,” House told him. “I’m
learning a new skill. A hobby –“

“An obsession,” Wilson finished for him.

“One more remark like that and you’re not getting any dinner
tonight,” House warned while he pointed the wooden spoon at Wilson,
a drop of sauce falling onto the floor.

Wilson looked down at it and then back up at House. “Oops,” House
said. “My bad.”

“Could you make something else besides a meal that contains
spaghetti sauce?” Wilson asked. “Chicken, for example. It’s good
for you and not as messy.”

“Well, that’s only after you kill it,” House said. “Chasing it
around first is the real bitch –“

Wilson closed his eyes. “Please tell me you don’t have a live
chicken around here somewhere.”

“And spoil dinner?” House smiled.

Wilson opened his eyes. “I’m going to get ready for work. This
kitchen will be cleaner by the time I get back tonight.”

House rolled his eyes. “Yes, sir.”

“I’m not kidding.” Wilson looked at House. “You might want to
rest your leg, too.”

“My leg’s fine,” House shot back and turned once again to the
stove.

“Sure it is,” Wilson said barely above a whisper before he went
back to his bedroom to get ready for work.

Twenty minutes later, Wilson came into the kitchen all dressed
and ready for work. House was still at the stove stirring and mixing.
Wilson swore the pots had multiplied in his absence.

“Your coffee’s on the table,” House said without turning around
to look at his friend.

Wilson saw his favorite insulated to-go mug on a corner of the
table that wasn’t filled with cooking utensils. He grabbed it
and headed for the door.

“Call if you’re going to be late,” House told him. “I’ll delay
dinner.”

Wilson made it out the front door before a smile made its way
across his face.
