Title: Never Too Late
Author: bjfangirl87
Series: House
Pairings: House/Wilson, one sided House/Cuddy
Summary: Sometimes we look for love in the wrong places.
Disclaimer I don't own the series or the characters. I also don't own the lyrics.
A/N: I was listening to the song, and it just seems like a good H/W song. This is loosely based on last night's episode, Known Unknowns. Also, House is probably a bit OOC. This is my second House fic, my first H/W. I hope you enjoy.
No one will ever see this side reflected
And if there's something wrong who would have guessed it?
And I have left alone everything that I own
To make you feel like it's not too late, it's never too late
"So," Wilson mused, sitting on the hotel bed beside his best friend, grabbing the $10 bottle of beer before the cap could be opened. "Cuddy and Lucas...who saw that one coming?"
House looked up at the off-white ceiling and sighed. "If it wasn't him, it would've been someone else."
Wilson looked at House's face with a mix of curiousity and worry. He wasn't used to the other man being so open. "Why...why would you think that?"
Blue eyes met brown for a mere moment before they stared at the condensation dripping from the glass bottle. "Why would she choose me? I'm a drug addicted, psychotic, crippled asshole. Definitely not father materal. And since I'm going to assume she doesnt plan on giving the rugrat back, I wouldn't be at the top of her list for potential mates."
"So..." Wilson considered his words for a moment, not really sure what to say, "you're done? You're no longer going to persue Cuddy?"
The older man shook his head. "No. I suppose not. I've wanted her as long as I can remember. But it's not going to happen. Maybe I'm just not supposed to be...with someone for the rest of my life."
Wilson swallowed the lump growing in his throat at his friend's outlook. He wasn't sure he'd ever seen House sound and look so defeated. Even right after the infarction, he'd done his best to hide the emotional pain.
"Well, you'll always have me," the younger man replied, wanting to end the unsettling silence in the room.
"Right," House scoffed. "I have you until wife number four stumbles along or until I manage to fuck up badly enough to make you run away again."
Wilson shook his head and reached out to grab House's chin before he could even think about the consequences. "No, House. You always have me. No more running away."
House could feel his pulse race just a little. This forceful side of Wilson did something to make his skin crawl, though not in a bad way. All past thoughts of his boss and her kid and her new boytoy slipped his mind as he focused on his best friend. The one who had been there with him through almost everything. His mouth went dry at a new realization. Maybe he projected his feelings onto Cuddy, because he didn't want to want Wilson.
House leaned forward at kissed the other man's lips. He didn't want to think about whether this could potentially ruin the last remaining friendship he had. He just wanted to know if he did have a shot at happiness.
To House's suprise, Wilson retuned the kiss with fervor. Lips parted and tongues danced and fought. Neither man was sure when they had crossed the line in their minds between friendship and this, but they both knew it was too late to stop.
House pulled back first, his breathing heavy as he leaned his forehead against Wilson's. He gave himself a moment of rest, then broke the silence. "So, no more running away?"
Wilson smiled and left a ghost of a kiss against slightly chapped lips. "I promise."
Well, I didn't get Cuddy, House thought to himself, but I have Wilson. Definitely a much better deal.
