Personally, I'm hoping the Cuddy/Lucas lasts: not only does it make her agreeably unavailable to House and therefore promote H/W indirectly; it's a much healthier relationship than she could have with House. She will be happier if she sticks by her declaration that she will have a life outside of House's madness.
(The whole Cuddy/Lucas/House triangle feels to me like House is the proverbial--and immature--dog in the manger: I'm not even sure he wants Cuddy herself so much as he simply doesn't want anyone else to have her, so her role in his life remains unchanged.)
And seconding the 'reversed situation' comment above--House doesn't really have room to be that angry, considering that A), of course he said something extremely provocative beforehand (perhaps even with the object of getting Chase to snap), and B), he once punched Chase across the hospital lobby.
Besides, some anger on Chase's part is going to be inevitable after this week, and it'll be emotionally easier to be angry at House than at himself. (I'm glad he's finally letting off some steam: throw Cameron's leaving on top of the aftermath of the Dibala debacle that and Chase was either going to have some extreme release somewhere or lose it completely.)
And as a side note, the pain in Houe's jaw should make him forget about the pain he's supposed to have in his leg. (Seriously, where _has_ the leg pain gone this season? Making it vanish with ketamine was bad enough; now it's just disappeared without even a pseudo-medical reason.)
There are two pseudo-reasons. One is that long term Vicodin use actually can make a person think that they are in alot more pain than they actually are. It's a side effect of abuse of the drug. This has been mentioned on the show a few times, IIRC. Two is that the Psych med House is on is an SSRI. They are also indicated for treatment of cronic pain. Or, so Wikipedia claims ;)
I have no clue if those factors are enough to have such a large effect, but, there are things to point to.
Okay: I buy the Vicodin's actually causing perceived amplification of House's pain; that makes a certain amount of medical sense and is just the vicious cycle the show would have set up.
As for the SSRI, Wikipedia aside (with absolutely no disrespect, as I refer to it for some things myself), I'm not jumping on that explanation so quickly, not least because we have never seen House take it, or (correct me if I'm mistaken) heard reference to it in dialogue post-Mayfield. If the show is going to tell instead of showing, well... It doesn't make sense to me that damage that extensive can be apparently more or less fixed by antidepressants and talk therapy.
(Actually, I have issues with the entire Mayfield/Nolan thing, but that's a post for another day.)
Also, as far as I can remember, they have never mentioned that effect of SSRIs on the show. Based on people I know who are on anti-depressants, they are not something you take a person off of lightly. Side effects can be bad. But, again, I am not referencing the show here.
spoilery titbits that I've caught seem to suggest that the pain thing should be at least mentioned in the second half of the season, at least for this one bit. I don't want to gossip in case it turns out to be wrong, but so far it seems like it won't be, but anyway, I don't think we should give up too soon that they've just forgotten his leg pain, though its one of their more inconsistent character trait thingys, isn't it? le sigh.
Really, if you have seen possible spoilers why don't you just say what they are with the warning that they may not be true, and we can decide for ourselves if we want to believe them.
No offense, but it is rather annoying when people write that they know things, but don't write what it is they know.
=/ sorry to offend you, I saw it on some "House" LJ group and don't know how common knowledge it is, I wasn't asking anyone to believe anything, just trying to hopefully help a fellow fan feel a little happier. This isn't a spoiler post, it isn't like everyone is here looking for spoilers given that this isn't the house spoiler group where I would have gone into further details, but I can find the post in question if that helps? Ohh don't be angry with me =(
Of course I'm not angry with you, it's just that I am such a spoilerphile, I hate missing anything. And often gossip on forums or fansites turn out to be true. That's why I think if someone mentions something they have seen, they should say where or what it is. :)
Okay, I hope this works, I just don't want anyone who don't want to upset people who don't like spoilers. I tried finding the place I saw it myself, but I fear it is lost to the sands of time, or LJ, whichever one, so I've hopefully put the rest of this post in white text, so potential spoilers ahead I'll continue trying to remember where it was I saw it, though I have a nagging feeling it was in the House/Cuddy group, it seems they have some people, or at least one person, who works on the show, she saw "Broken" some time before it aired and wrote up a review of it way before it had aired.
I hope it all turns out to be true, House is so in need of a good clean so that Wilson can help make him dirty again. Now I'm having flashbacks to the end of last night's episode and House sneaking those DVDs into his backpack... I'm so up for them being a continuing plot point.
I believe what you've referenced happens in episode 13 just before the Huddy crapfest episode (14). I remember it being 13 because I was so not looking forward to episode 14 and thought I could skip 14 and just rewatch 13 until we get back to House and Wilson episodes. And I'm spoilerwhore and troll for H/W spoilers EVERYWHERE :))))
I don't trust Cuddy. I mean at Cam's exit, she starts her conversation with House telling how she used to be in love with him even though she's now married to someone else. When House refuses to shake her hand, instead of walking away she kisses him. So yeah, I'm pretty sure Cuddy is just talking smack. That's sort of what Wilson's smile was about after their conversation. He knew her had gotten to Cuddy which was confirmed by the Luddy scene that followed.
You know, they might as well stop pretending in the promos that the patients are only there for obligatory purposes. House's personal life is far more important to the show now.
With "personal life" apparently meaning "Cuddy", despite the need for Wilson to take on the role of the Babel fish.
Sorry, not actually trying to be snippy at you, I'm just a little frustrated with their "dance" and needed to vent. Unfortunately you just so happened to voice a comment that's been on my mind for a while - thus the vent gets directed at you ;).
But yes, I like it when patients really tie into a story with situational parallels.
I hate it that the promos go like "House's most challenging/difficult/shocking case yet" EVERY FUCKING WEEK, and it usually turns out to be just like most cases. Ugh -_-
Yeah, I don't either. I don't think one should consider a punch 3 years later as pay back. Seems a bit late to me. Not sure where that excitement is coming from. Maybe I just have a soft spot for House :)
Aaaah?? I'm trying to be excited, but it's not coming.
I agree that the patients don't serve that much of a purpose anymore. I watch something from season two and the amount of my caring has gone down significantly.
I wish House would leave Lucas and Cuddy alone for awhile. The writers seem to have an urgent need to re-hash stuff that they figure will catch viewers, but it just ends up looking tired especially when the promos pump up the action so much. I agree with the person above- stop with the OMG DEATH LIFE WOW TEARS every week.
I can't suggest how to write this show out of its hole, but someone with some mad skills needs to sometime soon. Wasn't House supposed to be about him treating patients?
Here's a link to the H/W promo for ep 9. http://www.fox.com/fod/play.php?sh=house&ep=1258235416787# It has one star for 130 reviews. I'm thinking it got such a low rating because once again House is obsessing over Cuddy. But still it's House/Wilson. I still can't understand why after 10 or more years House seems to have suddenly and I mean suddenly obsessed with Cuddy.
Folks even if we hate the content we need to boost the rating!!!!!!
