Summary: This is the first chapter of a long story taking place some millennia in the future, in U.K.Le Guin's Ekumen Universe, about two centuries before "The Left Hand of Darkness." Wilson is an oncologist, and the Royal Physician in Karhide, one of the two most powerful countries of the planet Gethen. House is a gay Terran, a former diagnostician currently working as a secret Investigator for the Ekumen, a planet federation that is considering asking Gethen to join.
Warning: explicit smut, violence.

why post something, but block it?

I've had long and heated discussions with a number of people in this comm about how UKL feels about fanfic. She never blocked it, but said she didn't want it to be too visible either. My compromise was to hide this under an f-lock. Some people told me in no uncertain terms that it was too much, some equally strongly that it was too little, and that I shouldn't be posting this online at all. In the end I took a bit of a hiatus with the story, but I still intend to finish it.
