H_W Challenge - "Once Upon A Time"

The results of our H_W poll indicated a preference for...lurking. So we're skipping right along to the second vote getter which was a 'specific themed challenge'. Hopefully you lurkers will help us with prompts, as well as read and comment on the finished products.

Our theme (provided to us by petitecuriosity) will be "Once Upon A Time".

To get us started, we need people to post ideas in the comment section for things that have to do with something that happened in House and Wilson's past, affecting them in the present. (note: 'present' doesn't have to be post-show. You can set your work in any season you'd like)

An example would be: Something to do with Wilson's fraternity, or House's piano lessons. Or maybe something comes up related to somewhere House lived as a boy? Or Wilson's time at McGill?

The key here is that the 'thing' was mentioned somewhere in canon and came from either man's past. Ideas can be used more than once, and yes, you can write to an idea that is not offered in the comment section. The only other requirement is that whatever you create includes both House and Wilson.

The offering can be a fic, a vid, or an artwork.

Here are my offering/ideas:

Something dealing with the bet or deal that House made with Wilson that he has to pay his $10 anytime someone says "thank you" for a poor cancer diagnosis.

House admission to Wilson that he's been borrowing larger and larger sums of money from him.

Anything featuring Wilson's "Dr. Bear" or House's ball (something that references their origins for example)

Anything that features Wilson and his duck episode (the duck thing and Wilson was once mentioned concerning House and bachelor parties).

That's a good question. I'd say 'yes' since it is the "Once Upon a Time" challenge, except that it could also be an ongoing thing. So for example putting a prompt out that involves Stacy is both pre-series and and during-series. All of my ideas I put in my comment (just above yours) are ongoing things.

Let's see, House would be...Grumpy maybe? Or Peter Pan? Maybe a cross between the two - Grumpy Peter?

Jimminy Cricket has Wilson written all over it on the surface, but maybe the dark!Wilson people would prefer to see him as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. ;)

Taub is Tom Thumb. Chase is Goldilocks, Foreman is Puss and Boots (its the clothes and the lust for power), and Cameron is obviously Snow White's daughter (sorry, couldn't resist that last one).

Well, just going on looks House would be Mr Gold :) Wilson would definitely be Jimminy Cricket (he has a dark past too) :) Would Cuddy be the Evil Queen/Regina ;)

House could cure Wilson with 'love's true kiss' (Not that I've given any thought to a post-finale story where the two would wander into a small town in Maine and meet a woman who looks remarkably like Cameron and have all sorts of adventures...)

I thought about the Mr. Gold thing. Especially with the limp and his alter ego being the Beast too. But I so love Robert Carlyle I wouldn't trade him, even for HL. Your right about Jimminy having a dark past and the guilty conscience.

I like Cuddy to much to make her Regina. If anything she is more like a kick-ass heroine of modern Disney fairy tales with a sense of humor. Oddly enough I sea bit of Emma in her (if Cuddy's life had been different of course) with her independent streak.

I don't watch OUAT, did they ever do anything with Winnie the Pooh, because House is totally Eeyore. That shows up in a fic i wrote in a scene with Chase having a conversation with another character.

But Eyeore says stuff like "don't worry about me, I am unimportant" and such. House doesn't seem Eyeorish (now there's a interesting word) to me. In some ways he is more like Tigger, though with a hefty dose of Rabbit's sarcasm. Wilson is definitely Christopher Robin ("Oh, you silly old House")

I'm thinking of the characters the way they are in the A.A.Milne books, NOT the Disney version. Eeyore is much more sarcastic and House-like and Rabbit isn't sarcastic (but he is a bigot, his immediate response to Kanga, Roo and Tigger is , "they're different, get rid of them").
I think Wilson's Piglet, he's a little drama queen.

This challenges sounds like a great idea! I'm not certain I'll write something, but here are my ideas. I'd love to see something that involves Wilson and his tennis days. Either during school or even pre-series playing with House. Maybe even doubles with Stacy and Bonnie that later leads to some slashy fun. Anything with Wilson, House, and tennis would be great.

The tennis is a great idea, but the fic is supposed to be set either during the show or after, not in the past. The idea is that something from the past (that was mentioned somehow as canon) is supposed to be affecting the present. Does that make sense?

So, you could have someone who Wilson used to play tennis with pop up in the present, for example? Or maybe Ketamine!House could play tennis with Wilson like he used to in pre-series days?

Thinking about tennis reminds me -- wasn't there mention of the two of them having played golf in the past?

And what was it about House (other than sheer cussedness) that made him never wear a doctor's white coat? He was forced into one in the Vogler arc, but he was clearly unhappy, and perhaps not just because he was being made to conform. Maybe there was something behind that?

i always thought that was House's admittedly large ego. Remember, a doctor's coat is a uniform, and any uniform means "I belong to something bigger than myself".

It's canon, pre-show canon, that
1) House was working at PPTH and told Wilson about a job opening there, and that's how Wilson came to work at PPTH;
2) House thought Wilson took the job to be closer to House, but
3) Wilson did it hoping to find his missing brother, who was last seen in Princeton, and
4) House didn't discover this until S5 - and didn't know Wilson HAD a missing brother until S1.

Tidbits from House/Wilson past - not sure how you tie them into something in the 'present' but somebody might have some ideas :)

From 7.12 You Must Remember This - House: After divorce number two, he fell into a committed relationship with a three-legged Siamese. He stopped answering his phone, redecorated his place like Grey Gardens. He wasn't able to come back to humanity until a window was left suspiciously and heroically open. How that cat opened the window, I will never know.
