[identity profile] flywoman.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] house_wilson_ghc
ETA: All authors, please make sure to read this update on submission guidelines.

An announcement from [livejournal.com profile] flywoman and [livejournal.com profile] jezziejay with permission of the [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson  mods:

We're really pleased that so many new and returning [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson  members are interested in the idea of a fic challenge to liven up the community. Here's an opportunity for all of us to get acquainted with each other's work while participating as readers and/or writers!

The "Everybody Lie!" Challenge

Write a fic focusing on House and Wilson, featuring a lie. The catch? The fics will be posted anonymously, and readers are going to try to guess who you are... so LIE to them. Disguise your style, choose an unusual format, attempt an angsty slash fic if you normally write fluffy friendship fic, etc. You can even imitate another author who has posted links to fic samples if you dare (but please be considerate - respectful imitation or gently poking fun at your friends is fine, but mean-spirited mockery will not be tolerated). The point is to get out of your comfort zone and see how many of us you can fool!

Please sign up in the comments below to indicate your intent to submit an entry. If you like, include links to a couple of representative fics so that readers (and writers ;)) can get a sense for your usual subjects and style.

Between APRIL 1 and APRIL 8, please send a copy of your fic to [livejournal.com profile] flywoman  or [livejournal.com profile] jezziejay  by private message. All entries will be posted anonymously to [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson  as they are received. A final list of authors' names will be posted once the April 8 deadline for fic submissions has passed. Readers can comment on each fic and indicate whom they think might have written it until April 15, when all will be revealed!

FAQ:

Do I post my fic directly to [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson ?
No - please PM a copy to [livejournal.com profile] flywoman  or [livejournal.com profile] jezziejay  between APRIL 1 and APRIL 8. We will post them to the comm from our accounts so that no one will know it was yours until the end of the challenge.

Must I have posted fic to [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson  before?
No - new members as well as veterans are encouraged to participate in this challenge. You do not even need to have posting access since your fic will be posted for you.

Can I post my fic to my own LJ and/or other comms?
Sure, but please wait until after the challenge is over so that [livejournal.com profile] house_wilson  community members can have the fun of trying to guess your identity!

Should I use a beta?
We highly recommend that all authors use a beta in addition to spelling and grammar check. Just make sure to swear your beta to secrecy ;).

Can participants comment on each other's fics?
Absolutely - in fact, we highly encourage it.

Can I comment on my own fic?
Of course! It's yet another way to fool other readers into thinking it was written by someone else!

Hi! I'd like to participate, but I don't have any samples from the House fandom. :/ Should I bother with samples, or just let everyone be surprised? :)

All righty, well, here I go... >.>;

Masterlist: http://phiso-kun.livejournal.com/13653.html
Contains Harry Potter, BBC Sherlock, TRC, and Tokyo Babylon

FF.net account: http://fanfiction.net/~phiso
Contains Harry Potter, TRC, XXXHoLiC, Fruits Basket, Tokyo Babylon, ATLA, and Digimon

My better, newer stuff is going to be on LJ, but I thought some of my ff.net stuff to be worthy of reposting. These two links are well-organized, so I'm not sure if links to individual stories are necessary...

I'll take a shot at it though I think I'm rather predictable and may have trouble hiding myself. Here are a couple of links:

I expect to have that exact problem.

You will have to work very hard to hide yourself as will Blackmare if she decides to post.

No matter how many beta readers I torture, I'm sure to be recognized as the one with the really weird (as in, non-native-English) sentence structure.

Samples outside my lj:

The Longest Journey (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6680589/1/The_Longest_Journey)

Okay, I'll jump in! Here are some sample links:

Short sample: Nightsongs (http://alternatealto.livejournal.com/23794.html) -- written for the Sick!Wilson summer camp.

Longer, but not really long: An Absence of Cats (http://alternatealto.livejournal.com/21098.html) -- H/W slash, NC-17

And one tiny piece of crack!fic: Obsession (http://alternatealto.livejournal.com/10198.html) .

Okay, I think I'll be able to participate:

Here are a few varying fics I wrote;

A Wilsonian Tragedy in Five Acts (http://barefootpuddles.livejournal.com/10389.html)

Anti-Freeze (http://barefootpuddles.livejournal.com/8721.html)

The Very Hungry Caterpillar - The House Version
(http://barefootpuddles.livejournal.com/2391.html)

Wilson's Will, House's Won't (dialog only fic) (http://barefootpuddles.livejournal.com/872.html)

I tend to write all different types of fics but maybe there will be a a stylistic way to figure out who it is. Or process of elimination? :)

It's a fun idea. I hope a lot of people sign up!

Me too, please! This sounds like fun.

Anyone interested can scroll through my fic index here (http://yarroway.livejournal.com/14928.html) Word counts are listed.

So, wait.

Do we have to provide an example of what our stories are like or are you all doing it just to make it more challenging?

Date: 2011-03-15 07:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] mmorgan317.livejournal.com
Good Point. Here are a couple of my favorites. Both are still In-Progress (I'm sorry, I haven't figured out how to link with a comment):

Shattered Innocence: mmorgan317.livejournal.com/11017.html

Accidents: mmorgan317.livejournal.com/3048.html

The summary for accidents doesn't really do the fic justice because I'm not sure there really is a point to it other than showing H/W's relationship (slash) and their relationship with Cuddy/Lucas. It's an A/U.

This is how you link (just remove the ~):

What do you usually use, British English? That might explain how come I like the way you write ;-).

Date: 2011-03-19 12:05 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] jezziejay.livejournal.com
Yes - British English. We are fond of our superflous 'o's and 's' instead of 'z'.

From: [identity profile] jezziejay.livejournal.com
And we also leave out less important 'u's. Wait. No. That's just me. It should, of course, be superfluous. Bit like this (my) comment, really :D
